This policy explains how Kurocho, operated by Thomas Bernard Calvet (SIREN 923 373 104), collects, uses and shares your personal data when you visit or buy from kurocho.com. For customers in the United Kingdom we act as data controller under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018; for customers in the European Union, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Identity and contact details: name, billing and delivery address, email address, telephone number. We ask for a phone number because our carriers need it for age-verified deliveries.
Order information: knives bought or viewed, order history, returns, refunds and warranty claims.
Age confirmation: your confirmation at checkout that you are 18 or over, and the carrier's record that an identity check was carried out at the door. The identity check is performed by the carrier. We do not see, receive or store a copy of your ID document — only the confirmation that the check passed and who signed.
Payment information: handled securely by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number. Payment data is encrypted to the PCI-DSS standard.
Device and browsing information: browser type, IP address, time zone, cookie identifiers, pages viewed and how you interact with the Site, collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
Messages: what you write to us, including photographs you send us for a damage or warranty claim, and your email address if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter.
We do not knowingly collect special category data.
To fulfil your order — taking payment, arranging delivery, sending confirmations and invoices. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
To meet our legal obligations on age-restricted goods — confirming that the buyer is 18 or over and that the parcel was handed to an adult. Lawful basis: legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in not selling a knife to a minor.
To support you — answering questions about an order, a return, a damaged blade, a warranty claim or a sharpening question. Lawful basis: performance of our contract, and our legitimate interest in running a service that works.
To prevent fraud — screening orders for risk. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests.
To send you marketing emails — only if you have asked for them. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
To advertise and measure our advertising — including showing you our ads on other sites. Lawful basis: your consent, given through our cookie banner.
To improve the Site — analytics on how visitors use it. Lawful basis: your consent for non-essential cookies.
To meet our other legal obligations — tax, accounting, warranty and consumer law record-keeping. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
We share personal data only with the providers who help us run the store:
Shopify — our ecommerce platform, which hosts the Site and stores order data on secured servers;
Payment providers — to process your payment securely;
Delivery carriers — your name, address and phone number, so your parcel can be delivered, age-verified and tracked;
Email providers — to send order emails, and marketing emails if you have subscribed;
Analytics and advertising partners, including Google — see section 4.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, to respond to a lawful request from an authority, or to protect our rights. We do not sell your personal data.
Some of these providers are outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
We use cookies to keep your basket working, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the Site, and measure our advertising. Essential cookies are always on, because the Site cannot function without them. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only with your consent, which you give or refuse through the banner when you first arrive and can change at any time.
Advertising partners such as Google may use cookies to show you Kurocho ads on other websites. You can also manage interest-based advertising through your Google ad settings, and control cookies through your browser settings — though disabling them may affect parts of the shopping experience.
We keep order records for as long as we need them to serve you and to meet our legal retention obligations for tax, accounting, warranty and age-restricted-sales purposes, then delete or anonymise them. Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in the relevant tool.
You have the right to: be told what data we hold about you and get a copy of it; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data deleted, subject to our legal retention obligations; restrict or object to our processing, including profiling for advertising; receive your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it.
How to exercise them. Email contact@kurocho.com with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We may need to confirm that you control the email address linked to your orders. We respond within one month, as the law requires.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority: in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Our store runs on Shopify. Data is held behind secured networks and firewalls, and payment transactions are encrypted to the PCI-DSS standard. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
The Site may link to other websites. Once you leave kurocho.com we are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their own policies.
The Site is not intended for anyone under 18, we do not sell to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal and operational reasons. The revised version will appear on this page with a new "last updated" date, and we will tell you about significant changes.
